Travel | Bottomless Brunch in DC

French Toast and Mimosa from Cava Mezze | Petitely Packaged

Hi all,

Happy August! I hope the month is kind to all of us. The year is slowly winding which makes me low-key happy, because my favourite time of the year is almost upon us. That’s right you guessed it… my birthday! I promise not to start my official countdown until the 22nd of August, but after that, all bets are off, because self-celebration is important. But enough about my birthday.

The Trip

To round off my July, I made my way to DC to spend the weekend with Crystal. Y’all know I love a good weekend trip! So after packing up the last few bits in my Chapel Hill Apartment – the one with the awesome view – I hopped on a Megabus the next day to be reunited with my friend. As soon as I got to Union Station, which was late thanks to the rain, were off to purchase Amtrak tickets to Baltimore. The company she’s interning with for the summer had a function and little ole me got to be her plus one!

We had all these awesome plans for the weekend, but guess what? We were rained out. It rained in Baltimore. It rained in DC. It rained on Friday. It rained on Saturday. The DMV area just did not want us to be great. Finally, on Sunday mother nature blessed us with sunshine, and we did what we do 2nd best: brunch!

Brunching While Black

We headed to Cava Mezze Capitol Hill location to chow down. Cava Mezze is a Mediterranean inspired restaurant known for its Bottomless Brunch for $35 and 25 cent mimosas. Let me tell you, the brunch menu is extensive. If you can think of it, it’s likely there to fill your belly.

I opted for the Spicy Lamb Benedict (because I can’t turn down lamb)Village Fritatta, and French Toast. I have a weakness for french toast y’all. In a perfect world I would have to order everything on the menu but at Cava Mezze everyone as to order bottomless to reap the benefits ( the squad agreed that’s the plan next time).

The benedict was flavourful and tender, not necessarily spicy, but it offered a little kick in the middle that did not linger too long. With my frittata, its shape and a thin layer of egg reminded me more of an omelette, but I was in greens heaven because your girl had been craving some veggies. The french toast was divinely made. With fresh berries and honey to paid homage to a traditional Mediterranean breakfast while complementing the challah.

I cannot wait to go back. Cava Mezze gets a 10/10 from me. If you happen to visit, try to get Florence as your server. She is a gem.

Brunch was a beautiful end to a great weekend. We toasted to Crystal’s new job. My girl is gainfully employed!!! We danced a bit to great music playing over throughout the upper deck because that’s part of brunching while black. We did what we always do, talk about the wonders of being twenty something, young black professionals.
